Asking questions of our environment, self analysis and achievement are the makings of a career motorsport that lasts the test of time. For most people motorsport starts with passion, wide eye'd excitment and maybe a touch of glamour, experience teaches us to keep our feet on the ground and our eyes on the many goals present at each and every event. These objectives are, in reality set by our time and budget not our passion and excitment.
Simon grew up around motorsport, living within earshot of Silverstone circuit in the 1980's and with a Le Mans enthusiast father, it was perhaps inevitable he would work in the sport. Growing up in an environment of "there's a spanner, work it out for yourself" lead Simon build his first race car aged only 18, a car purchased for just £180. Very different times and would not have been possible in the modern era of motorsport.
With a basic income working as an instructor at The Jim Russell Racing Drivers School (Donington Park), Ian Taylor Motor Racing School (Thruxton) and The Silverstone Race School funding to become a racing driver was limited but Simon made it happen when he could, winning his first Championship with 2 races to go in 1992. Budget and a reserved nature have restricted attempts to move into other categories despite a record for top 3 finishes in everything he raced beyond two events.
Simon's career as a driver coach really took off in the late 90's. Back in the days before data loggers and in particular Video Vboxes (in which Simon was one of the first to own and use one with customers) most jobbing instructors were uncomfortable to coach in racing cars, in particular in Caterhams. This meant that Simon and a small group of very experienced motorsport driver coaches were training the bulk of the UK's amateur racing drivers. It was almost impossible to attend a track day in the 00's without crossing paths with Simon at some stage.
These days Simon is available for coaching alongside a growing Simulator business, Sim-Dynamics (Motorsport Tuition Simulators as it was previously known before expansion) and his contracts with Aston Martin, Porsche and Ferrari.
